# Accessing Forward Starting Bond Yields

Get a forward-starting government bond yield for any forward start and tenor, and export the curve.

A forward-starting yield is the market-implied yield on a bond that begins at a future date. Use it to plan future financing, read rate expectations, or price a forward-starting instrument.

***

### 1. Open Government Bonds

Click **Bonds** and then [**Government Bonds**](https://app.bluegamma.io/bonds/gov/united-kingdom) in the left-hand sidebar, then pick your market from the **country drop-down**.

{% hint style="info" %}
Forward-starting yields are available in the larger markets, including the US and UK. Smaller markets show the core yield view only. See [Accessing Bond Yields](https://www.bluegamma.io/documentation/market-data-guides/overview-2/accessing-bond-yields) for what varies by market.
{% endhint %}

***

### 2. Go to the Yield Curve Tab

Scroll to the tab strip in the lower half of the page. The tabs are **Yield Curve**, **Swap Spreads**, **Forward Curve** and, in linker markets, **Inflation Linked**.

**Yield Curve** is the one you want, and it is selected by default. The **Forward Start Bond** panel sits beside the zero-coupon yield curve chart on that tab.

### 3. Enter a Forward Start and Tenor

In the **Forward Start Bond** panel:

| Field                 | What to enter                                           |
| --------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Forward Start (Y)** | How many years ahead the bond starts, for example `2` |
| **Tenor (Y)** | The length of the bond from that start, for example `5` |

Enter both and the forward-starting yield is returned. The example above gives the 5-year yield, 2 years forward.

Use **RESET** to clear the inputs and start again.

### 4. Download the Data

Click **Download** on the chart to export the curve to Excel.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://www.bluegamma.io/documentation/market-data-guides/bonds/accessing-forward-starting-bond-yields.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
