# How Often Is Your Data Refreshed?

Most major benchmarks refresh about every 30 seconds in market hours, others every few minutes to once a day, and FX streams in real time. Per-index update buckets.

Most major benchmarks, including `SOFR`, `SONIA`, `ESTR` and `EURIBOR`, refresh about every 30 seconds while their markets are open. Other indices update every few minutes to once a day, and FX streams in real time through the API.

Each swap rate and forward curve falls into one of the five buckets below. To see which bucket a specific index is in, see [Available Indices](/documentation/integrations/available-indices.md). For when each day's fixing becomes available, see [When Are Fixings Available?](/documentation/reference/when-are-fixings-available.md).

{% hint style="info" %}
**Weekends and holidays:** there are no weekend updates, apart from the start of the new week on Sunday evening UTC, when it is already Monday morning in Asia-Pacific. Most rates also pause on local market holidays.

`SOFR`, `Fed Funds`, `AONIA`, `3M BBSW`, `6M BBSW`, `3M BBSY`, `6M BBSY`

* **Starts:** Sunday evening New York time, which is Monday morning in Sydney.
* **Stops on Friday:** at around 6pm Sydney time for `AONIA`, `BBSW` and `BBSY`, and at around 5 to 5:30pm New York time for `SOFR` and `Fed Funds`.
* **Daily pause:** `SOFR` and `Fed Funds` pause for about an hour after the New York close each weekday.

### Every \~30 seconds, market hours

`SONIA`, `ESTR`, `SARON`, `CORRA`, `POLONIA`, `1M/3M/6M EURIBOR`, `1M/3M/6M/12M CIBOR`, `CITA`, `DESTR`, `3M/6M NIBOR`, `3M STIBOR`, `SORA`, `TONAR`, `3M TIBOR`, `6M TIBOR`

* **`TONAR` and `TIBOR`:** update on Tokyo business days, from the Tokyo morning until the New York afternoon. They pause for up to an hour over the Tokyo lunch break.
* **`SORA`:** slows to every few minutes over the Singapore lunch break.
* **Thinner markets such as NOK and SEK:** a rate can stay unchanged for several minutes or longer between refreshes.

### Every few minutes

`EIBOR`, `1M/3M HIBOR`, `91D CD`

* **Market hours** for `1M/3M HIBOR` (Hong Kong morning into European hours) and `91D CD` (Korean market hours).
* **Weekdays** for `EIBOR`: most of the day, but quieter in the early Gulf morning and on Friday afternoons.
* **Individual tenors** can change less often than the curve as a whole.

### Several times a day, market hours

`3M JIBAR`, `3M KLIBOR`, `7D REPO`, `Overnight MIBOR`, `6M WIBOR`, `6M PRIBOR`, `6M BUBOR`, `3M TRYIBOR`, `3M TELBOR`, `3M SAIBOR`, `3M TAIBOR`, `3M BKBM`, `OCR`

* **`3M SAIBOR`:** follows a Monday to Friday week, not the Saudi Sunday to Thursday one. It can also update into the European and US afternoon.

### Once daily

`THOR`, `TIIEON`, `CDI`, and most indices under [More Indices](/documentation/integrations/available-indices.md#more-indices), including `1M BBSW`, `12M EURIBOR`, `6M HIBOR`, `3M WIBOR`, `6M STIBOR`, and overnight risk-free rates such as `HONIA`, `ZARONIA`, `SWESTR` and `NZONIA`

* **Timing:** each business day's closing curve is added once, on the following business day.
* **`CDI`:** usually updates the same evening, after the Brazilian close.

## FX, government bonds, API and Excel

| Data | How often it updates |
| ---------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------- |
| FX rates, streaming (API only, over WebSocket) | Real time, as new prices arrive |
| FX rates, non-streaming                        | Up to once a minute                                   |
| US Treasuries | About once a minute, during trading hours on weekdays |
| Other government bond markets | Once a day |
| API and Excel Add-in | Same frequencies as the web app |

In Excel, cells only pick up new values when your workbook recalculates. FX streaming is available through the API only.

## Why the update frequency varies

* **Market liquidity.** Continuously traded benchmarks like `SOFR` or `3M BBSW` generate enough two-way flow for near-live quotes. Less liquid markets produce fewer quotes per day.
* **Daily close coverage.** For some rates, BlueGamma publishes one closing curve per business day rather than intraday quotes. These are the indices in the Once daily bucket above, including certain smaller-market overnight risk-free rates. Major risk-free rates such as `SOFR`, `SONIA`, `ESTR`, `SARON`, `TONAR`, `AONIA` and `CORRA` update live. For the full list, see the buckets above or [More Indices](/documentation/integrations/available-indices.md#more-indices).
* **Quote availability.** In thinner markets, new quotes arrive less often, so a refresh does not always change the rate.

Each bucket matches a type of benchmark:

| Benchmark type      | Bucket                                          |
| ------------------- | ----------------------------------------------- |
| Continuously traded | Every \~30 seconds, round the clock on weekdays |
| Session-traded      | Every \~30 seconds, market hours                |
| Moderately liquid | Every few minutes |
| Less liquid | Several times a day, market hours |
| Daily close         | Once daily                                      |

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://www.bluegamma.io/documentation/reference/how-often-is-your-data-refreshed.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
