# Benchmark Rates

Central bank policy rates and daily benchmark fixings for each currency, with compounded overnight rates, history and Excel downloads.

**Benchmark Rates** shows the latest central bank policy rate and daily benchmark fixings for a currency, with the history behind each one. Open it from the sidebar under **Market Data → Benchmark Rates**.

***

### 1. Choose a Currency

The page opens on your default currency, or GBP if you have not set one. Use the currency picker in the top right to switch currency.

### 2. Read the Central Bank & Benchmark Rates Table

The **Central Bank & Benchmark Rates** card lists one row per rate for the currency.

| Column     | What it shows                                                             |
| ---------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Rate** | The benchmark, for example the central bank policy rate or a daily fixing |
| **1 year** | A sparkline of the past year                                              |
| **Last** | The latest published value. **Coming soon** where we do not have it yet |
| **Date** | The date of that value |

Click a row with an arrow to open that benchmark's history (see step 4). **Download** exports the currency's benchmark rates to Excel.

### 3. Compounded Overnight Rates

Six currencies also show compounded-in-arrears rates for their overnight risk-free rate:

| Currency | Overnight rate |
| -------- | -------------- |
| GBP      | SONIA          |
| USD      | SOFR           |
| EUR      | ESTR           |
| CHF      | SARON          |
| CAD      | CORRA          |
| ZAR      | ZARONIA        |

For these currencies, two more cards appear.

**Compounded \[rate] (in arrears)**, for example **Compounded SONIA (in arrears)**, lists the **1 Month**, **3 Month**, **6 Month** and **12 Month** rates. Each is the annualised rate from compounding the daily fixings over the period ending on the date shown. **Download** exports the full history. For your own accrual dates, follow the **RFR Calculator** link under the card.

**\[rate] & compounded rates** plots the overnight fixing against the four compounded tenors, so you can see how compounded rates lag the overnight rate through a rate cycle. Choose **3M**, **1Y** (the default), **5Y** or **Max**, switch between **Chart** and **Table**, and use **Download** to export the period shown.

***

### 4. Open a Benchmark's History

Clicking a row opens a page for that benchmark. It shows the latest value with its **Last fixing:** date, and three statistics:

* **52-week high** and **52-week low**
* **1-year change**, in basis points

Pick a period of **1M**, **3M**, **1Y** (the default), **5Y** or **Max**. The period is kept in the page address, so a link you share opens on the same view.

* **Chart** plots the daily history.
* **Table** lists each **Date**, the value, and the **Change** from the previous fixing in basis points.
* **Download (Excel)** exports the selected period.

Under the chart, **Do more with this rate** links onward where relevant, for example to the index's forward curve and swap rates, the RFR Calculator, or related fixings. **All \[currency] benchmark rates** at the top returns to the currency page.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://www.bluegamma.io/documentation/market-data-guides/benchmark-rates.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
